Ulster County Habitat for Humanity was organized in 1996 and, together with partners, has rehabilitated or built houses in Ulster County, New York. As a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, we invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. We are people from all walks of life, working together to eliminate substandard housing conditions in Ulster County.

Ulster County Habitat for Humanity partners with the selected family who add their own "sweat equity" to the contributions of volunteers, foundations, faith-based groups, and commercial enterprises. When a site is selected, Ulster County Habitat for Humanity raises the money necessary to rehabilitate a house or construct a new house. The finished home is then sold to the partner family for the cost of construction.
Four factors help to make Habitat houses affordable to low-income families:

  1. Houses are sold for the cost of construction
  2. Ulster County Habitat holds the no interest mortgage.
  3. Homeowners and volunteers build the houses under trained supervision.
  4. Individuals, foundations, faith-based groups, businesses, corporations, and others provide financial support.
